If you are a Canadian permanent resident or citizen with a family member who wants to immigrate to Canada, you may be able to help them become a permanent resident. Family reunification remains one of the pillars of the Canadian immigration system.

Family sponsorship is an immigration program through which your relatives can live, work, and study in Canada by becoming permanent residents (PRs) of Canada. It provides a route for spouses, partners, children, parents, grandparents, and in certain cases, other relatives to move and settle in Canada.

Your application must include the sponsorship undertaking and the sponsorship agreement as well as all other required documents.

Sponsorship Programs in Canada

When you are sponsoring relatives, the foremost step to follow is to submit a paper application to the immigration authorities. If the applicant meets all relevant requirements or pre-requisites, a permanent resident status will be issued. Being a citizen or permanent resident, you are allowed to sponsoring relatives under the following categories:

  • Spousal Sponsorship
  • Parent and Grandparent Sponsorship
  • Sponsor Close Relatives
  • Super Visa

Sponsor Your Parents or Grandparents

The Family Class category of Canadian immigration allows sponsorship of parents and grandparents. You may be able to sponsor only if you are at least 18 years old and are a:

  • Canadian citizen or
  • Registered in Canada or
  • Permanent resident of Canada

A commitment must be undertaken by the applicant to provide financial support to his sponsored family or relatives by way of a sponsorship agreement. The sponsor must demonstrate the financial ability to meet the essential needs of the sponsored immigrant over a prescribed period. At Amro Immigration, we assist individuals in collaborating with their families by helping them file the sponsorship application.
